the interest of both Pope Paul VI and Pope John Paul II in the beatification of
Matt Talbot. In his 1976 Christmas homily, "Christ, the Physician of Souls,"
included in the book, The Smiling Pope (2004), by Raymond
and Lauretta Seabeck, Pope John Paul I was also
interested and believed Matt Talbot would be beatified
soon.
